John O’Hurley on the National Dog Show

John O’Hurley stops by to chat about his 13th stint as host of the National Dog Show and who he wants to take home the Mirrorball Trophy this season on “Dancing With The Stars.” By New York Live   –  Nov 25, 2014

People Magazine

National Dog Show host and one of the world’s most soothing voices, John O’Hurley pawed over to PEOPLE Now to give us a sneak peek at this year’s competitors.
O’Hurley brought along a pair of coton de tulears, one of the National Dog Show‘s two new breeds for 2014, as his special furry guests. The host couldn’t stop himself from gushing about the rookie contestants, who will be joining the non-sporting group.

“I have fallen in love with this breed,” he shared. “If there is a perfect family dog, this is it. They don’t shed. They are, I would say, absolutely low maintenance.”

The other newcomer joining the show this year is the wirehaired vizsla, who will be competing in the sporting group. Aside from these additions, O’Hurley’s National Dog Show experience hasn’t changed much. Hosting the Thanksgiving tradition on NBC for 13 years, O’Hurley looks forward to spending the holiday with these courteous and cuddly canines each year.

“We’ve got 2000 of the best dogs in the country …” he said. “You can put these 2,000 dogs together in one room and there isn’t a single dog fight all day long.”

One friendly dog that won’t be making an appearance at this year’s show is viral sensation Marnie the rescue dog, but PEOPLE Now still asked O’Hurley to use his canine expertise and give the goofy-tongued dog her own award.

“This would be the KISS groupie,” Hurley said. “That’s the Gene Simmons look right there.”

The 2014 National Dog Show airs on Thanksgiving Day at 12 p.m. in all time zones on NBC.

Tired of your family? Watch the National Dog Show

If by noon on Thanksgiving you’re tired of your family but not quite prepared to watch large men pummel each other in the gladiatorial sport known as football, there’s something else to watch to distract yourself. 9NEWS at 7 a.m. 11/26/14.

DENVER – If by noon on Thanksgiving you’re tired of your family but not quite prepared to watch large men pummel each other in the gladiatorial sport known as football, there’s something tremendously adorable to watch to distract yourself.

The National Dog Show will be on NBC for the 13th year. It’s hosted by actor, author and Broadway star John O’Hurley (yes… the dude from Seinfeld) and, perhaps more importantly, features 2,000 really cute dogs – including the world’s largest, smallest and most exotic.

The show starts at noon on NBC (that’s channel 9 … aka your favorite channel).
